The Essence of Budget and Grow Rich! – Why These Money-Saving and Wealth-Building Tips Work Today (Part 9a)

Sometimes we receive some amazing feedback on our Budget and Grow Rich® blog posts and books.

Other times, not so much. And every so often, well, we get slammed.

I guess you can’t win ‘em all!

We thought our recent post, How to Double Your Salary – Are You Nice ??? (Part 9), was right on the money.

And given the story of my date with Amy, the post was kinda funny or at least amusing.

And well if not that, a good lead-in to the post’s tips and message.

Apparently, Tommy from Tulsa had Other thoughts:

“Dear Arthur,

Usually, my wife and I look forward to your weekly blog posts on Friday morning.

Budget and Grow Rich® contains useful information and tips and techniques to save money.

In fact, your posts have helped us save tens of thousands of dollars and build wealth bigger and faster than we thought possible.

We’ll be able to help our two daughters go to college and we’ll be able to retire on schedule and possibly retire early.

But this last blog post was an exception. You leave us scratching our heads, wondering whether you’d flipped your lid and lost your marbles.

Who cares about Amy and Arthur’s dating adventures. We’ve all had our share of rejection.

Please return to your regular themes and wealth-building and moneysaving strategies, techniques, tactics and tips!

Tommy G.

Tulsa, OK”

Well, I can’t blame Tommy AND We DO Appreciate All Comments and Feedback!

But he may have missed the point.

Almost everything under the sun has been covered!

Now I’m not saying that humans aren’t creative or don’t invent knew things, for example Nvidia chips; Artificial Intelligence (AI); new medical treatments and breakthroughs (gene therapy and GLP-1 weight loss drugs) and on and on. . .

But even though humans are gifted with a strong memory, we don’t always remember the little ways, the simple ways, to save money and build wealth that really make the difference in our well-being and our lives.

And that’s the ticket to saving money and the ticket to building wealth!!!

Numerous complex plans and complex action steps often produce results, but I find that the simpler, more straightforward techniques work better.

And they are easier to put into action. With simplicity, there’s less room for errors and it’s less likely we’ll miss the boat.

If you’ve been following Budget and Grow Rich® and you’re familiar with my background, you may recall that I worked at Citibank from June 1989 through March 1998 when I moved to Chase Manhattan Bank. Chase was acquired by JP Morgan in late 2000 and unfortunately, in June 2002, they laid off my entire group.

Ouch!

Turned out though that when I had left Citibank four years earlier, I left on good terms.

And I had the maturity and wisdom to keep my mouth shut.

Actually, when I was leaving Citibank, I didn’t have anything particularly bad to say about anyone I had worked with!

Although I would have appreciated being paid a little bit better along the way (we’ll be discussing this in a future blog post), nothing or no one really bothered me.

At Citibank, I earned nice money and good benefits. I got great training and work experience. I learned how to put together a complex loan financing. I took Citibank’s Credit Training Program while they paid my salary and benefits. I travelled across the USA and traveled to Germany, London several times and twice to Tokyo. I worked with some of the top attorneys in New York City and arranged financing transactions for over a dozen Fortune 500 companies. And I made some great friends!

When I got laid off from Chase, I called one of my former Citibank colleagues and he helped me get a job interview.

I was able to rejoin Citibank in March 2003 which isn’t very common!

In contrast, Richard, a  former colleague, had left Citibank several months before I did and badmouthed a bunch of people. Turned out he too got laid off from his bank around the same time I did.

Nope – Citibank would Not rehire Richard. On his way out, he had irritated and badmouthed too many people.

SO, while it may seem like a great idea to give your soon to be former employer a piece of your mind and a few suggestions for improvement, sometimes it’s better to be  quiet and keep your thoughts to yourself.

Sure glad I recalled my Dad’s words to keep my thoughts to myself and my Mom’s adage, “It’s a small world. And it always pays to be nice to everyone because you never know who you’ll meet along the way.”

Tommy, thank you for following Budget and Grow Rich®.

Sometimes the old adages pay dividends today; and sometimes a seemingly common example or a simple example or a story or anecdote job our memory or give us an idea on how to save money and build wealth! And the time-tested moneysaving techniques and wealth-building techniques will work for you today.

Keep your thoughts, insights, comments and suggestions coming!

We read every one of them!!!

See you next week.
