I did it again! UGH!
And I wrote the book on how to save money on groceries: Save Money on Groceries – 327 Ways to Cut Your Grocery Bills and More!
In the book, I even emphasize the Importance of the grocery moneysaving technique we’re going to unpack right now.
Actually, this tip is a two-step system! Two for the price of one.
Let’s get to it.
Create a laser-focused grocery shopping list that lists All the items you buy and all the things you may buy.
In other words, include the universe of food and groceries you buy every week, periodically and once in a blue moon – your guide on What to buy and what Not to buy.
A written grocery shopping list is KEY to saving money because you have a roadmap – your template, your framework – to navigate the supermarket aisles.
I use Microsoft Excel for my grocery shopping list because it’s Easy to alphabetize the items and move them around.
Lay out the items – food and groceries – in groupings, by category. Group similar items together and based on the layout of the grocery store or supermarket. This trick saves you money and time.
Print out your grocery list – hardcopy, old school.
I keep a few copies in my desk drawer and a few in my car.
This way, I have my list handy if I happen to make an impromptu grocery store run on my way around town or on the commute home.
Take Inventory of your groceries and food on hand BEFORE you head to the supermarket or grocery store.
Taking inventory is Mission Critical.
Sadly, I can’t tell you how many times I’m in a hurry or decide to rely on my memory [and I Have a Good Memory]. . . And believe me, it doesn’t go all that well. Without fail, I buy some items, only to find that I have two or three in the pantry or freezer; And I forget to buy an item or two that I actually needed.
The haphazard approach meant that I have wasted $1,000s over the years.
See what you have on hand – what you have in your pantry, freezer and refrigerator.
Go down your list and compare each item to what you have in your pantry, freezer and refrigerator.
As you take inventory, Cross Out each item that you do Not want to buy on that trip to the supermarket or grocery store That Day!
Again, Cross Out each item that you don’t want to buy that day.
This helps you Eliminate the items you don’t to buy now today And Zero In on the items you really want to buy that day.
By process of elimination, this technique Highlights the items you really want to buy that day and helps you focus your grocery shopping.
And you’ll save time too!
While you’re at it, as you cruise the aisles in the supermarket Stick to Your Grocery Shopping List.
Resist the temptation to purchase extraneous items.
Okay, if you want to buy a treat or two and have some extra money, go for it.
Combining these two moneysaving techniques – maintaining your custom grocery shopping list And taking inventory Before you leave your house; and well, sticking with your grocery shopping list – will help You SAVE BANK!
Probably $1,000 Every Year!
This is The Combo that unlocks The Secret Goldmine.
With these two simple moneysaving techniques – grocery savings system – you can save bank too!
