How to Avoid Airline Checked Bag Fees Part 3

During a recent business trip, we realized that we wanted to share yet one more great way to avoid airline checked bag fees and airline baggage fees.

Let’s unpack another great way to reduce or avoid checked bag fees.
Again, the key to minimizing or avoiding checked baggage fees is to minimize the weight of your suitcase and fit everything into one suitcase instead of two or into two suitcases instead of three.
If we can’t beat the Airline Industry, let’s buckle up, fight fire with fire and pack this great way to avoid airline check bag fees or at least reduce airline them.
For short trips, use a polyvinyl garment bag.
These flexible, foldable garment bags hold a suit or two, a pair of slacks or two or a skirt or dress; and a couple of shirts or a blouse or two.
When I take a short business trip or go to a wedding, I pack my sports jacket and slacks in a polyvinyl garment bag; pack my clothes and shoes in my rollaboard suitcase; and put my other stuff in my backpack.
On the outbound trip, I have three suitcases or items: my polyvinyl garment bag; my rollaboard suitcase and my backpack.
Two large bags – the polyvinyl garment bag and the rollaboard suitcase; and a personal item – the backpack.
Three items means that I have to check a bag and pay the check bag fee. But. . .

On the way back, I pack my sports jacket or suit and slacks in the bottom of my suitcase and fold the polyvinyl garment bag so it fits nicely into my rollaboard suitcase.
This condenses three items into two.
Bring the rollaboard suitcase and your backpack onboard. They should fit into the overhead compartment nicely.
Presto – no more checked bag and no more checked bag fee.
Although, when you pack your jacket, skirt and slacks in your suitcase, they might get wrinkled.
Which could increase your dry cleaning costs. . .and offset the money you save by avoiding the checked bag fee.
But you also save time exiting the airport because you avoid the time you have to wait at the baggage carousel.
You can’t win ‘em all.
